Bill Smyrl
Bill Smyrl received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Texas Tech University in 1963. In 1972 Mr. Smyrl became a principal in architecture and real estate development with an aggregate value in excess of $750 million. He has previously held the position of President and CEO of Architectural Development Corporation, Smyrl Investments and AVEX Development, Inc. Additionally he held the position of Vice President and served as a member of the Board of Directors of Furr’s Realty Company. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors of Furr’s, Inc., a chain of 75 grocery stores. Mr. Smyrl currently is a principal in the SMYRL group, a real estate development, investment and consulting firm. His experience encompasses all aspects of the development process including site selection, planning, financing, construction and management of office, retail, hotel and multi‐family projects. Bill and his wife Sonya lived in Dallas, Texas from 1968 until June 2000. Since June 2000 their residence has been at Horseshoe Bay, Texas. Civic and professional activities have included Rotary International, International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), Urban Land Institute, American Institute of Architects (AIA) and various national multi‐family housing associations. Bill served as president of the Preston Center Rotary Club in Dallas from 1998 – 1999 and is a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow. Bill and Sonya served on the Board of Young Life in Dallas. Bill and Sonya are members of First Baptist Church in Marble Falls where Bill is a Trustee and also was Chairman of the Long Range Planning Committee which was responsible for the overall planning and construction of the new church campus and a 65,000 sf worship and education building. Bill also serves as Board Chair for OLLI Highland Lakes, an educational format for people 50 years and older.
